No. 8. M Kawahara Building (1911–1912)


I spotted this gem at the end of Mauna Kea where it meets with Nimitz. One of the things that struck me was how perfect the negative space was, not just between each of the glyphs but also from character to character. A type designer I've worked with once pointed out that the true beauty of a typeface isn't just measured by its form, but by the rhythm of space created by the absence of form. Yes indeedy.
